Uroczysta gala, ogłoszenie wyników pierwszej edycji Nagrody Wójta Gminy „Biały Gryf” , prezentacje historyczne i artystyczne występy – wczoraj w Gminnym Centrum Kultury w Gródku odbyły się obchody 520-lecia istnienia miejscowości. W gali jubileuszowej wzięli udział lokalni samorządowcy, mieszkańcy gminy, ludzie związani z Gródkiem. Zarząd Województwa Podlaskiego reprezentował wicemarszałek Maciej Żywno.
Uczniowie Szkoły Podstawowej w Gródku zaprezentowali scenkę teatralną. Słowo do zebranych skierował wójt gminy Gródek Wiesław Kulesza. Zaprezentowano też pokaz multimedialny „Krótka podróż przez stulecia”. Był również tort i słodki poczęstunek. Podczas wydarzenia zaprezentowano wystawę fotografii opracowaną przez Wierę Tarasewicz i Elżbietę Greś „Dawniej i dziś - 520 lat Gródka”.
- Gródek jest wspaniałym miejscem, a obchodzony dziś jubileusz jest okazją, żeby to zaakcentować – mówił Maciej Żywno, gratulując mieszkańcom gminy wspaniałego jubileuszu. - Mieszkacie w pięknej miejscowości, otoczonej piękną puszcza, żyją tu wspaniali ludzie i to jest to bogactwo, które mam nadzieję przetrwa kolejne setki lat. Jesteście mocnym elementem naszego województwa.
Rok 1498 jest uznawany za datę założenia Gródka, choć jego początki są dużo wcześniejsze - jako ważnej miejscowości na szlaku Grodno - Bielsk - Drohiczyn. Do rozwoju Gródka przyczynił się ród Chodkiewiczów. Okres świetności miejscowość przeżywała w XV i XVI wieku, w czasach Aleksandra i jego syna Grzegorza Chodkiewiczów. Wówczas założono większość wsi w dobrach gródeckich.
Organizatorami wczorajszej imprezy były: Gminne Centrum Kultury w Gródku oraz Gmina Gródek.
